    Im taking my 2 teenagers,14 &16 to WDW in April for a week, I've been trying to think of a way to put them on a spending budget, the only thing I can come up with is a gift card. So my question is.1.Do you have any other ideas,2.how much should I give

    Hi Karen! It is difficult to select a spending amount when it comes to purchases at Walt Disney World. Our rule of thumb has been $15 per vacation day for our older children and $5 per vacation day for our younger children. Because the older children are drawn to more expensive and age appropriate items, they get more. They are also allowed to bring any Disney Dollars they were given for Birthdays and holidays. After check-in, the older children receive their envelope of Disney Dollars and we hold on to our youngest's envelope. It is amazing to me how careful they are when choosing their purchases. They will not spend all their money on one purchase or at the beginning of the vacation. I think this teaches them the importance of budgeting and the reward of making a well thought out decision. We also do not allow them to use their spending money on souvenir purchases for others. We will watch them and take note of any items that they tend to want, but can not afford.  As a special treat, we will purchase one item for each child and keep it until we return home. It is always nice to see the surprise look on their face when they unpack and find it.
