I'm surprising my kids at Xmas with a Disney trip for next August. Trying to decide between Port Orleans French Quarter and Caribbean Beach. We went 3 years ago and stayed at the Beach Club. We LOVED the pool and convenience to Epcot, but I need to go the

    Hi Pamela,

What a wonderful Christmas present your trip to Walt Disney World will be!  You may want to have a video camera at the ready to capture your kids' excitement and surprise.

Although you can't make a bad choice between Disney's Port Orleans Resort French Quarter and Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort, I'll try to help you make your decision.

Transportation options at these resorts are comparable; both are just a short bus ride away from Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios.  However, if you have any pirate fans in your family, you'd probably prefer Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort.  A few short years ago, Disney re-imagined many of the guest rooms here as pirate-themed rooms.  If you think these rooms would delight your children, then that's the choice I'd make.

Personally, I prefer Disney's Port Orleans Resort (French Quarter) for a number of practical reasons.  The resort is smaller and more intimate than Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort. No matter where your room is, you're never far from the bus stop or food court. There's only one bus stop for French Quarter so you don't have to ride around property before departing for the parks.  That can save some time.  I also think the pool at French Quarter is pretty cool.  Who wouldn't want to slide down a sea serpent's tongue?  I also enjoy the boat ride from Port Orleans to Downtown Disney.  That's something that is not available at Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort.

Let us know if there's anything more you'd like to know about these two resorts.  We'd be happy to share our experiences with you as you plan.

Best wishes for a truly memorable Christmas surprise this year!
