Hello Leila, welcome to planDisney!
It sounds like you’re looking into the
Disney Vacation Club and all that it offers, I’m happy to assist! My family has loved using our DVC Membership over the past 12 years and we look forward to many more trips in the future.
I remember asking the same question when deciding on a
Use Year (when you receive a new allotment of Vacation Points) for my family’s first Disney Vacation Club ownership interest. My guide said Use Year is important to consider and to select one based on when you typically travel. If you travel at various times throughout the year, it may not be as important but if you consistently travel at the same time of year, your Use Year will matter more. The reasoning is that if you need to cancel your trip within 30 days of your check-in date, your Points will go into
holding and cannot be banked. These Points can only be used to book a reservation less than 60 days from the date the reservation is made.
If, for example, you choose a September Use Year and need to cancel your September trip, your Points will return to your account and you have the remainder of your year to use them. Your banking deadline also comes into play - the banking deadline is 8 months after your Use Year date. Therefore, if you cancel your September trip and don’t foresee yourself making a reservation, you have 8 months to bank your Points for use in the following year.
I hope this clarifies some things for you. If you have more questions, I recommend giving
DVC Member Services a call and you can speak with an advisor. If you have any other DVC or vacation planning questions, please
let me know. I'm happy to help!
Welcome Home,
