Hi Jessica,
You're a super cool mom to plan a surprise birthday trip! During your visit,
Disney's Princess Half Marathon Weekend will be held Feb - 24 - 26, 2012. Kids races will be held on Feb 25th at ESPN Wide World of Sports Track & Field Complex. Your son will think its super cool to show off his Finisher medallion.
I'm not sure what time you're arriving on the 24th. If we arrive later in the afternoon, we usually do something low key that evening like having dinner at Downtown Disney & shopping. We also love the
Pirates & Pals Fireworks Voyage.
I'd either spend 2 full days at the Magic Kingdom (MK) or 1 full day at MK & 1 at DHS. Click
here for some suggestions at those parks. I'd spend the 26th in the MK because its the best place ever to celebrate a birthday.
You can ride any of the attractions as a family where your son meets the height requirements (HRs). You can find a list of the attractions with HRs by visiting the
Traveling with Little Ones section. There you will find a PDF file on the right side of that page that lists attractions at all of the theme parks that have HRs.
If you have time before you leave on the 27th, I like to end our trip with a character breakfast. If you don't plan to visit a theme park that day, I'd suggest Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary, Cape May Cafe at the Beach Club Resort or the Supercalifragilistic Breakfast at 1900 Park Fare at the Grand Floridian.
Wishing you minnie magical memories :-) Allison
