I'm really wanting to plan a wonderful trip with my family in a year or two. Problem is is that I don't have the foggiest idea how to actually do that. Everything looks so overwhelming. Never been here myself but I know my daughters would love it.

Hey there, Arrow! It's my pleasure to welcome you to planDisney.

I'm so glad you dropped by with your question. And... just as Cinderella had her Fairy Godmother helping her, we are here to help you in your planning journey. Now... Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo... let's talk about the first steps for you.

Arrow, since your trip is a year or two away, I'm confident that you have plenty of time to learn more about the Walt Disney World Resort before your visit. If your budget allows, I encourage you to consider booking a vacation package that includes both a Disney Resort Hotel stay and theme park tickets. Staying at a Disney Resort Hotel includes complimentary transportation to the parks and really helps you feel like you're always in the middle of the Magic. I would start your planning process in two ways.

         1. If you haven't already done so, set up a My Disney Experience account. Through this account, you can book your vacation package, manage your plans, make dining reservations closer to your stay, and more! Creating an account now will also help you familiarize yourself with all of the planning tools available.

         2. Start browsing through all of the Disney Resort Hotel choices. You'll find options for every interest and budget. My fellow panelists and I are always happy to give recommendations as well! I love different Disney Resort Hotels for different reasons. For example, if your family is a huge Star Wars fan and you'll be spending a lot of time at Disney's Hollywood Studios, a resort that offers Disney Skyliner transportation might make the most sense. If your top priority is to find a resort that is small and easy to navigate, my favorite would be Disney's Port Orleans Resort- French Quarter.

Arrow, once you have created an account and narrowed down some resort choices, your next task is to decide what time of year you'd most like to visit. There is no perfect time, but only what's the best fit for your family. You'll often find longer park hours in the summer, however, the days are hot in the summer sun. The winter offers cooler temperatures, but if a daily swim is a "must-do," you may want to avoid December-February. My family tends not to travel over major holidays with the hopes of having lower crowds in the parks when we visit.

With your dates and resort, you can purchase a vacation package through your My Disney Experience account (currently only booking through 2023). Packages can be booked with a deposit and you can pay over time. Once you have your package secured, make sure to come on back to planDisney with questions about dining around the Walt Disney World Resort and the optional tool to help shorten wait times: Disney Genie+

Arrow, I hope this helps as you begin dreaming about your visit to the Most Magical Place on Earth. As a fellow Mom, I understand wanting to watch your kids experience the delight that a Walt Disney World Vacation can bring. Please come on back with lots more questions as you continue planning. We're happy to help!
