I'm planning to take my 3 year old to Disney in early December and plan to stay at one of the Deluxe resorts near Magic Kingdom. Is there one that is more kid friendly than others? Are the resort pools still open in December?

    Theresa:

One could argue that both the Polynesian Resort and the Contemporary Resort are both "kid-friendly," deluxe resorts near the Magic Kingdom, but I would go one step further and recommend that you look primarily at the Contemporary and here's why:

    1. The resort is one monorail stop away from the Magic Kingdom making it a great fit if your 3-year-old takes afternoon naps or if you want to skip the park at night and just enjoy its views from your balcony.
    2. Once you step off of the monorail in the Contemporary, you are steps away from the elevator and your hotel room, unlike the Polynesian where you may find yourself walking 10 minutes to your room--and out in the weather. Not a good combination with a napping child in a stroller.
    3. Speaking of the monorail, I can only imagine how cool it would be for a child to get to stay in the hotel where the monorail comes right through the lobby!
    4. Chef Mickey's--a favorite of kids of all ages--sits below it all. With some of the best character interaction not to mention lots of choices for picky eaters, make sure you visit early on your vacation.
    5. Yes, its pool is open year-round and it's HEATED. I visited in December a few years back and couldn't believe that youngsters would get out in the cold, but they were going up and down its slide. It also has a few splash features for little ones.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
