I'm planning a trip with my 4 year old nephew. Where do I start?

    Hi Trina,

Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! We are thrilled to help you plan a magical trip with your nephew who sounds like he is just the perfect age to take on this adventure!

Of course I hope you decide to stay at a Walt Disney World Resort Hotel. Given his age, I would suggest a value resort hotel like Disney's Art of Animation Resort. The decor at this resort is just fabulous and, the Big Blue Pool is a little one's dream! If you would prefer a resort hotel with more amenities, consider Disney's Contemporary Resort which is within walking distance of Magic Kingdom and has access to the Resort Monorail. My family adores deluxe and deluxe villa resort hotels because we love having access to a variety of dining options at the resort. At Disney's Contemporary Resort, one of our favorite restaurants is Chef Mickey's. On our last visit, Minnie Mouse was adorable, and we snapped the cutest photos.

Once you pick your resort hotel, decide how long you wish to stay and then determine how many days you will need theme park tickets. If you do a vacation package for four nights for example, you could do five-day theme park tickets. If you have an early flight on that last day, you could just do four-day park tickets. Or, you could decide to spend a day at the resort in the pool, so you may only need three-day park tickets. We typically visit the parks on each day of our trip, and we do half days at the resort hotel to enjoy the pool.

My family also typically includes one of the Disney Dining Plans with our vacation package. Consider how your family dines while on vacation to be sure that a dining plan will be a good value for you. My family loves three meals per day so we usually get the Disney Deluxe Dining Plan. When our girls were about the age of your nephew, however, the Disney Dining Plan worked well for us.

Once you have your vacation package booked, be sure to link it to your My Disney Experience Account. And then start exploring the restaurants that take advanced dining reservations and the Attractions List. We always make our dining reservations 180 days in advance of our trip. We do our homework prior to that so we know which restaurants to reserve at that 180-day mark. As a Walt Disney World Resort Hotel guest, you will be able to make your FastPass+ selections for attractions 60 days in advance of your trip, so be sure to consult with your nephew using that attractions list to see which rides you will want to prioritize with those FastPass+ selections.

Trina, final tips - do check the height requirements of the attractions you select to be sure your nephew can actually ride those when you arrive and indicate if there are any food allergies on those dining reservations! Last tip, you may want to do a little shopping beforehand to pick a few special surprises!

    Magic and memories,
