I'm planning a surprise Christmas/New Year trip for my family of 6. We are staying off property, seeing the gingerbread houses is top priority for me. Where are the must see gingerbread & whats the best way to get there from Disney Springs?

Hi Sarah and welcome to planDisney. I am so glad you stopped by with your question as you plan a magnificent magical vacation to Walt Disney World for your Sensational Six. The winter holidays hold some of my best memories at Walt Disney World Resort and I know they will do the same for you and yours. But you've touched on a very special experience. The gingerbread houses at Walt Disney World Resort are known worldwide and continue to amaze every guest who sees them.

To find your way from Disney Springs to these edible edifices follow these steps:

    1. Take the Walt Disney World Bus Service from Disney Springs to Disney's Beach Club Resort then walk to Disney's BoardWalk Inn. After seeing the gingerbread creation there, hop a bus to Magic Kingdom Park
    2. At Magic Kingdom Park, walk or ride the Walt Disney World Monorail System to Disney's Contemporary Resort. Afterward, get on the monorail to Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. Then walk or ride the monorail again to Magic Kingdom Park to catch the bus to Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge.
    3. From Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, you may take the bus back to Disney Springs.

Remember, you are unable to travel between Resorts Hotels by bus so using a theme park or Disney Springs as a transfer point is the best route.

Here is a list of locations where, in the past, gingerbread houses or gingerbread art has put smiles on the faces of Mickey's Guests.

    • Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge - gingerbr-animals look so delicious
    • Disney's Beach Club Resort - a carousel made of chocolate and gingerbread with a Hidden Mickey game
    • Disney's BoardWalk Inn - small display but the details are incredible
    • Disney's Contemporary Resort
    • Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa - the grandest of all the houses made with 10,000 gingerbread pieces
    • EPCOT - American Adventures Pavilion
There may be others this year as we are yet to find out exactly what will be where so be sure to follow the Disney Parks Blog for updates about the gingerbread magic.

planDisney Pro Tip: While seeing the gingerbread houses do not miss the opportunity to see the holiday trees at each Resort Hotel.

Sarah, I hope these logistics make your holiday even better. Please let us know if you have any other questions and feel free to write me back directly with any follow-up needs.

    Enjoy making many Magical Memories.
