I’m planning to go to MK in the morning and then go to Epcot for the evening. If I make lightning let reservations for Epcot, will I be able to get any for MK?

    Hi Shannon,

Thanks for stopping by planDisney with this question. I'm happy to help! I love planning a day of park hopping between Magic Kingdom Park and EPCOT. Since they are just a Monorail ride away from each other, it's usually a pretty smooth process to enjoy the magic across both parks. If you are planning to purchase Disney Genie+ Service for the day of your visit, you'll be able to make Lightning Lane selections at both parks, with a few caveats. Let's dive in!

First, in order to visit EPCOT and Magic Kingdom Park on the same day, you'll need to purchase Park Hopper Option tickets. These will allow you to begin your day in the park where you've made a theme park reservation, and hop to a second (or even third or fourth) park after 2 p.m., subject to capacity. Pro tip- I'd plan to head to the Monorail at Magic Kingdom Park around 1:30 p.m. on the date of your visit. You'll need to transfer through the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC) before arriving at EPCOT, so this will help get you to the EPCOT entrance right at 2 p.m.

Next, be sure to purchase the "Multiple Parks" option for Disney Genie+ Service using your My Disney Experience App. This will allow you to reserve return windows for Lightning Lane entrances at both parks one at a time, beginning at 7 a.m. When it's time to book your first selection, you'll be given the next available arrival window for that particular attraction. You can refresh the Tip Board in your My Disney Experience App and the times will update throughout the day. You can also modify a Lightning Lane return window to an earlier or later time, if available, after booking. Sometimes plans get delayed or you run ahead of schedule so the modify option is a great way to adjust your park plans in real-time.

Finally, if you are planning to reserve Lightning Lane entrances at both Magic Kingdom Park and EPCOT, you'll need to keep an eye on the return windows for attractions in EPCOT. Genie+ will not automatically offer return times after the 2 p.m. park hopping window opens if you begin making selections first thing in the morning. I'd recommend booking your first few attractions at Magic Kingdom Park, and then taking a look at the EPCOT return windows beginning around 11 a.m. You'll see the return windows adjust and hopefully, you'll be able to time your first EPCOT attraction close to that 2 p.m. hopping window. If you decide to return to Magic Kingdom Park after your time in EPCOT, you can use the same strategy to check evening return windows there throughout the afternoon.

One last tip- if you plan to purchase an à la carte Individual Lightning Lane for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind or TRON Lightcycle / Run presented by Enterprise, you will be able to select your preferred return times for each, subject to availability.  My son and I purchased both on our recent park hopping visit to ensure we were able to ride at the time of day that best matched our park schedules.

Shannon, please feel free to stop back with any additional questions. Wishing you a magical visit!
