Hi there, Jeannie, and welcome to planDisney!
Your first trip to Walt Disney World Resort is sure to be nothing short of magical. Sharing those memories with your sister makes it even sweeter. It feels like yesterday when my own sister and I planned our first visit to your coast’s gem, Disneyland Resort. I am more than happy to help you with this piece of your vacation planning puzzle.
First of all, I’m truly sorry to hear about your sister’s back and spine issues, and I’m sending pixie dust her way! My husband also suffers from severe back pain, so I’m just your gal to point you in the right direction. There are attractions in each theme park that he tends to avoid, but most rides at The Most Magical Place on Earth are easy on his back. My go-to method for choosing attractions that are not as bad on the back is to look for rides that have no height requirement. There are numerous rides without height requirements, but these include classics like
Pirates of the Caribbean and
The Haunted Mansion. If my babies could ride them while strapped to my chest all those years ago, I feel comfortable enough riding it now with my husband’s increased back pains.
I highly recommend that you review the attraction warnings before your visit. Although they are posted outside of attractions, you can view them by visiting each ride’s information on the Walt Disney World website (select “Show Safety, Accessibility, and Guest Policies”) and in the
My Disney Experience App (select “Accessibility and Other Information”). This will give you a detailed warning that could include avoiding the ride if you have back or neck problems, etc. For example, one of my favorite attractions,
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, has one of the smoothest rollercoaster tracks I’ve ever experienced, but the warning lists that back issues could be aggravated.
AN EXTRA GEM: Check out my friends’
planDisney Podcast episode that’s all about visiting the Walt Disney World Resort for the first time. It’s super informative, and you’ll hear everything you need to know about navigating the parks and maximizing your time before and during your vacation.
Have the BEST time next year as you explore the place that I like to call “home.” You two are going to enjoy every moment together, and if you do find that you need a bit of a pick-me-up, remember that DOLE Whip is always steps away. Jeannie, if you have any other questions about your upcoming vacation,
revisit us here at planDisney!
Magic always,
