I'm planning my first trip to Disney World with kids, ages 3 and 5. What should I bring into the parks? I tend to over do it with extras (spare outfits, ponchos, snacks, drinks, bandaids, etc) but don't want to be bogged down with luggage.

    Hi Nicole,

Many, if not all, of us here on the Disney Parks Moms Panel are extreme planners. So, you have come to the right place with your question. You sound like a mother after my own heart. Often my husband tells me I'm too prepared, but I would rather be too prepared than not prepared at all. However, after years of going to Walt Disney World with kids, I have learned what I really need and other things I have learned are not as necessary as I first thought.

Here is a list of things that we take to the parks each and every time, either in a backpack or large tote or purse:
    • sunscreen - a must in the Florida sun
    • snacks - Goldfish, pretzels, or fruit squeezes are great for queue hunger
    • ziploc bag - to put smart phones in on water rides
    • folded up trash bag - for your backpack on the water rides (shaken out and refolded after the ride)
    • water bottles - another must in the Florida heat
    • hand sanitizer - I'm a germ phobe
    • camera - if not using your phone
    • light jackets - if season permits (Nov-Mar, evenings can be cool)
    • band-aids - mom always has band-aids

I only ever brought spare outfits for my infants, in the event of diaper leakage. So, by omitting that, you could save room.

Take a look at the official planning page for traveling with toddlers and pre-schoolers as it is other great tips and links. It also offers sample itineraries. I hope this helps you as you get ready to head out each day. Have a magical trip!
