I'm planning our first trip to Disney for my family of 5 (ages 4, 7 and 10). I can't decide on when we should go. First two weeks in May or the last two weeks in August. Which is the best time to go?

    Hi Andrea,

Congratulations on your first family vacation to Walt Disney World!  I'm so happy you found us here at the Moms Panel site and would be delighted to help you decide when to visit.

The general crowd levels for Walt Disney World will be pretty similar during either time period you are considering.  The biggest difference between early May and late August is the average daily temperature.  For early May the average high temperature is 85-88ºF and the average low temperature is 63-66º.  For late August the average high temperature is 91-92ºF and the average low temperature is 74ºF.

For my family's vacations, we definitely have preferred the weather at Walt Disney World during the month of May more than the weather during the month of August.  Those extra 6 degrees for the average high temperature in August really does make a difference for our comfort level.  Therefore if all other factors are the same for your family's vacation choices and weather is the only deciding factor, I can recommend early May over late August for your vacation.

If something does cause the scale to shift to make August a more favorable time for your family to visit, do not worry over the weather however.  There are many air conditioned attractions and other ways to keep cool such as arriving early at the theme parks and taking an afternoon break at your Resort hotel.

Thank you for submitting your question Andrea!  Please come back and visit us again as you continue to make your vacation plans.  We absolutely love to help others plan their MAGICAL Disney vacations.

    Blessings,
