Ahoy, Michelle! Welcome back to planDisney and thanks for sailing over with your Disney Cruise Line question.
Even if you have sailed with Disney Cruise Line before, there is something extra special about the
Alaskan itineraries. Whether you are enjoying a private balcony, peeking out a porthole, or sitting on the top deck taking it all in, you will be amazed at the views of breathtaking glaciers and majestic wildlife right from the ship. As you may know, this summer is the first time that the
Disney Magic will be joining the Disney Wonder in Alaska, so you will be embarking on a brand-new adventure.
As you prepare to set sail this July, keep the following three tips in mind:
1.
Pack Layers. When packing for Alaska, layers are going to be your best bet because the temperatures can vary. While July is typically the warmest month in Alaska, remember that you will be on a ship docking along the coast and average temperatures will generally be cooler than they are inland. You can expect temperatures mostly in the 50s or 60s, but should also be prepared for lows in the 40s at night and the possibility of highs in the 70s or 80s if it is sunny. Check out the Disney Cruise Line
packing list to help decide what needs to go in your suitcase.
2.
Take Advantage of Unique Port Adventures. Alaskan
Port Adventures are unlike those that you will find on any other sailing with Disney Cruise Line, so I definitely recommend booking excursions in advance. Whether you are interested in taking a boat trip for salmon fishing or whale watching, learning about mushers and sled dogs, or want to explore a glacier up close, there is something for everyone. If you are not sure where to start, then I would suggest looking into the Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show for your stop in Ketchikan or a train ride on the White Pass and Yukon Route in Skagway. With so many options to choose from, I’m sure that you will find the perfect fit no matter how adventurous the members of your sailing party may be.
3.
Get Ready for Frozen Fun. You won’t find Pirate Night or fireworks at sea on the Alaskan sailings, but you can be a happy snowman just like Olaf during a full day of
Frozen-inspired celebrations. Enjoy a scavenger hunt for the whole family with Anna’s Frozen Fun Hunt, dance along during Oaken’s Maypole Swirl and Twirl, and sing your heart out at the For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration. Plus you can feast on Nordic fare and dishes inspired by the movie at dinner that night.
I know that you will have an amazing time on your Alaskan itinerary and will find a whole new appreciation for sailing where magic meets the sea. If you have any other questions before you head for
Vancouver, then we are always here to help at planDisney. Happy sailing!
