I'm planning my family's 2nd trip to WDW for July 2010 and there are 4 of us, DH, DS (13), DD (10) and myself. What is the least expensive way to stay at a deluxe resort for a week and how does that compare to the same stay at a moderate? Love the panel!!

    Lauren:

A couple of options to stay deluxe at Disney on a budget....

    1. Choose a Semi-Deluxe: Both Animal Kingdom and Wilderness Lodge are considered semi-deluxe, as they offer many of the amenities that the deluxes do (table service restaurants onsite, upgraded pool experiences, larger rooms) but they don't offer monorail or walking access to the theme parks.  Get a standard room and you'll come out pretty good.
    2. Choose a Garden Room at the Contemporary:  These are some of the largest on property, but a view can run from fabulous (the Seven Seas Lagoon) to wretched (a parking lot).  It's a bit of a walk to the monorail, but if you snag one of the end rooms on a wing, you'll be quite happy.  PLUS: these rooms sleep five.
    3. Choose the Swan or Dolphin: Although you won't be able to add the Disney dining plan to your vacation or have package delivery to your resort, the rates at these hotels, for the amenities, makes them one of the best buys at Disney, in my opinion.  Their rooms are fanciful, the pool is upscale, and their biggest plus: walking distance to Epot, the Boardwalk, and a boatride to Disney Studios.
While you may have to give up some of the luxuries of a true Deluxe room (which many times can simply be a view), all of these are better options than staying at a Value or Moderate resort to me.  The Moderates will only offer bus transportation to the theme parks and a marked difference will be seen in its room size on down to the bath products!   Caribbean Beach Resort would be the only Moderate whose pool could equal any of the Deluxes (although I think the Contemporary's pool is nothing to write home about....).  And while Port Orleans: French Quarter is about as close to Deluxe as you can get with its boat and theming, it still pales to Wilderness Lodge.

    Wishing you a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
