I’m planning a family trip to Disney World for May 2024. We have our resort reserved but that’s about it. What’s the best way to start planning for parks and attractions, etc?

Hi there, Sheena, and welcome to planDisney!

You've definitely come to the right place to get your Disney vacation planning journey started. At planDisney, we are Guests who have "been there and done that," and we LOVE helping others make the most of their vacations. Regardless if this is your first trip ever to Walt Disney World Resort or your first in a while, we are happy to have you here.

The most important step is to secure a place to stay, and you've done that. There's nothing better than waking up in the magic. Regardless if you're staying at the quintessential Disney's Contemporary Resort or splashing away at Disney's Art of Animation Resort, you're going to have access to complimentary bus transportation to the theme parks, early park admission, and other perks depending on where you are.

Next up is deciding on which theme parks to visit. Will you visit all four theme parks, and will you need to visit multiple theme parks in one day? The answers to these questions will determine if you need to purchase multi-day theme park tickets, add a Park Hopper (or Park Hopper Plus) option, etc. You can find theme park ticketing options on the Theme Parks Tickets page. And depending on what becomes available, there may even be separately ticketed Disney After Hours or other events that you'd like to enjoy.

Now...on to my favorite subject: food! You can book advanced dining reservations at select Disney dining locations via the desktop website or in your My Disney Experience app up to 60 days ahead of your arrival.  Because you'll be staying on property, you can also make reservations for up to 10 days beyond check-in. If I were you, Sheena, start looking at the restaurant menus and have your family choose which (if any) you'd like to experience on your vacation. It's hard to choose my favorite, but I definitely recommend trying a combination of theme park, Resort hotel, and Disney Springs restaurants. I love variety!

On the morning of each day of your vacation, you may want to purchase access to Lightning Lanes (shorter queues) for attractions via Disney Genie+ or Individual Lightning Lanes. This is the best way to maximize your time at the theme parks. It's totally not necessary--I've had plenty of magical days without it. But, trust me, those long waits for highly sought after rides can take a toll in the Florida heat.

And speaking of attractions, check out videos on YouTube or watch our planDisney podcasts to get ideas about which attractions to prioritize. I've lived near the theme parks my entire life, and I still haven't experienced everything. Eek! So, have a game plan ready to go, Sheena.

AN EXTRA GEM: What I love the most about the Disney Parks is, true to Walt Disney's vision, there are always enhancements being made. So, to stay in the loop with new changes and experiences, keep an eye on the Disney Parks Blog

Sheena, if you have any other questions (or suggestions!), please give us a holler here at planDisney. I'm all ears!

    Magic always,
    LeAndra
