I'm planning our days with plenty of downtime for my kids (4, 6) and husband (who just isn't theme park guy). Staying at Animal Kingdom Villas. Are we allowed to plan a day at one of the beachier Disney resorts? To eat and do activities? :-)

Howdy Bess! What a great question! Disney Vacation Club Members are allowed to pool hop. The resort restaurants are available for anyone to enjoy (based on availability).

The following is from the Portable Perks brochure (available on the DVC Member website):  when staying on your Membership at any DVC Resort at the Walt Disney World Resort or Disney’s Vero Beach Resort, you and any Guests staying with you are permitted to use most of the other Disney Vacation Club and Walt Disney World Resort hotel pools (in addition to the pool at the resort hotel at which you are staying) if they are not at capacity.  Please check with a host or hostess at the front desk of the resort you wish to visit before you go to find out about pool-access availability. You must present your current Key to the World Card with your “DVC Member” designation on it to use the other resort hotel pools. Pool hopping is not available at Bay Cove Pool at Bay Lake Tower, Uzima Pool and Samawati Springs Pool at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, Stormalong Bay at Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts, the leisure pool at Disney’s Beach Club Villas, and the pools at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort. There are no exceptions to this policy. Resort hotel pools may become unavailable from time to time due to capacity limitations.” (I don’t know if this will help with the “beachier” part of your question but I assure you that you will find plenty of options.)

I want to add that we were at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas last month and I think you will find that it can offer some of the most enjoyable downtime you will ever experience at a resort.  The pools at both Kidani Village and Jambo house are great. They have daily activities at the resort and you (or your kiddos) will never grow tired of watching the animals.

Enjoy each and every magical minute of your vacation!
