I’m planning a cruise for my son’s 5 birthday, would he need a passport or just a birth certificate? I am his legal parent but his birth certificate has his dads last name

    Hello and welcome to planDisney!

I love a surprise! Thank you for including me in your planning. There’s nothing better than celebrating a birthday with Disney Cruise Line! You’re going to make incredible memories with your son.

I’m glad you’re thinking about your travel documentation early. Proper documentation ensures your transition from land to sea goes smoothly. United States citizens do not need a passport for closed-loop cruises, meaning your sailing starts and ends at the same U.S. port. You can present an original U.S. Passport OR an original or copy of a state-issued birth certificate and government-issued photo ID. Your Mouseketeer doesn’t need a photo ID. As long as you are your son's parent or legal guardian, no additional forms are required to sail with him. It looks like you are good to go!

Disney Cruise Line loves to celebrate birthdays! Make sure you note your celebration on your reservation. Sign in to your reservation and select Special Requests > Celebrations to mention his birthday. Be sure to stop by Guest Services to pick up a "Happy Birthday" button he can wear throughout the cruise. You never know when a little extra pixie dust might come his way!

As the date draws near, you can have Captain Mickey call to announce your cruise! Visit My Reservations and select “Request a Call” beside the smiling Captain Mickey and Captain Minnie. You can schedule the day and time and watch your son’s eyes light up as he hears the message. Please revisit us with any additional questions. We are always happy to help!
