Hi Christina!
Welcome to planDisney! I'm so glad you stopped by with your question. Your visit to the Happiest Place on Earth is coming up soon and I bet you're getting excited and counting down the days - I would be! January is one of my favorite times of year to visit Disneyland, and I have no doubt you'll experience the magic of Disneyland for yourself too while you're there. Oh boy!
Before any visit to Disneyland, I always want to know which attractions might be unavailable to experience while I'm there. This helps alleviate any disappointments, especially for my young kids but, let's be honest, me too. Your question is a good one, Christina!
According to the Daily Events Schedule for Disneyland Resort, the following attractions will be closed for refurbishment at Disneyland Park on January 7th: Mark Twain Riverboat, Disneyland Railroad, Disneyland Monorail, Haunted Mansion, and The Disneyland Story presenting Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln.
Over at California Adventure on January 8th, it looks like Grizzly River Run and Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind will be closed for refurbishment.
Dates are released for attraction closures six weeks out but it's important to know that they can change at any time. I encourage you to check back to the Daily Events Schedule on the Disneyland website for any updates. Not only will it provide updated closure information, but much more including park hours, entertainment offerings, and any events that may be occurring during your visit. Make sure you've selected your specific dates and park at the top.
While I was checking the attractions closed for refurbishment during your visit, I couldn't help but notice on the Entertainment Schedule that World of Color: ONE will be showing in California Adventure on the night you'll be in the park. This nighttime extravaganza on the waters of Paradise Bay was created especially for Disney's 100th celebration and is a love song to Disney fans. It's inspiring, heartwarming, and may leave you a bit misty-eyed (or perhaps a little more than your eyes if you have a spot near the front).
For a free viewing spot, join the virtual queue on the Disneyland app at 12pm the day you're in California Adventure. (I always set a reminder on my phone, so I don't forget, as I'm usually quite distracted hunting down the seasonal churro at the cart by Redwood Creek Challenge Trail.)
Well, Christina, I hope that's helpful! And from the bottom of my heart, I hope you have the most magical visit.
See ya real soon,
McCayla
