I’m a photographer and hoping to do a couples’ photos in the park. The photos would be free of charge, just for fun. I wouldn’t be bringing anything except the camera, and we would be mindful of our surroundings. Is this allowed if they’re personal only?

Hey there, Beth! Welcome to planDisney. I am so glad you stopped by with this question because capturing magical memories at the Disneyland Resort is one of my very favorite things.

You are on the right track. Casual, personal photos taken inside the parks are generally allowed, even if one guest happens to be handy with a camera. As long as the photos are just for fun, not advertised, not sold, and not part of a commercial shoot, snapping sweet couples photos while enjoying a park day can absolutely be part of the magic. In fact, there are several Picture Spots throughout the parks that make great backdrops!

There are just a few important pixie dust rules to keep in mind so everyone has a magical experience. Guests should wear everyday attire only. Costumes or clothing that could be mistaken for a character, performer, or Cast Member are not permitted, and this does include wedding attire or anything overly formal that looks like a staged event. Think Disney day cute, not Disney wedding chic.

You will also want to be mindful of where you stop. PhotoPass photographers have designated areas, and those spaces should be left open for their work. Keeping pathways clear, being respectful of surrounding guests, and moving along if an area becomes crowded all help keep the parks flowing smoothly.

As for gear, handheld cameras are totally fine. Tripods are permitted as long as they can collapse small enough to fit inside a backpack and are no taller than six feet when fully extended. Selfie sticks, however, are not allowed anywhere in the parks. Be sure to check out the prohibited items list to ensure you are in compliance of Disneyland rules.

If you ever want extra peace of mind, stopping by Disneyland Resort Guest Relations is a great idea, since they can confirm the most current policies. Rules can shift slightly over time, and they are always happy to help.

Beth, with a little courtesy, awareness, and Disney day sparkle, you can absolutely capture some beautiful moments. I hope those photos are filled with laughter, love, and just the right amount of pixie dust. And if you have more questions, you know where to find us. Come on back now, you hear.
