So, i'm not a runner, but i really want to do a 5k. I'm trying to talk the husband into training for the Expedition Everest Challenge. Is it possible for a new runner to make it through? What are the crowds like during the week surrounding the race?

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Claire!

I am excited to hear you are interested in participating in your first runDisney 5K event! This is the perfect distance to start with, and Walt Disney World® Resort is the perfect venue.

Expedition Everest Challenge is a fun nighttime race that also includes a scavenger hunt before a thrilling finish at Base Camp. In addition, Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park then becomes the scene of a post-race party that's sure to be a wild time.

I can tell you many runDisney enthusiast have chosen this event as their first race and they've been hooked ever since! So it is absolutely possible for a new runner to make it through is race, especially when utilizing the run/walk method created by the official runDisney Training Consultant, Jeff Galloway. By run/walking at specified intervals you will remain injury-free and less fatigued both while you train and while you race.

Expedition Everest Challenge Weekend will be held May 1-2, 2015, with crowd levels expected to be at a moderate level for the week surrounding the race. This race is scheduled to go on sale December 16, 2014, so mark your calendar!

I hope this information is helpful, Claire! And please remember you can send me any questions you may have along the way. I am here to help make your race experience as magical as possible.

    Happy Training!
