I’m a little nervous about needing to take a bus around fort wilderness. We are staying in the cabins; will most of the resort be walkable? We have 3 rambunctious boys and the less transitioning the better!

Howdy, Coleen! It's a pleasure to see you here at planDisney! Let's get you ready to explore the wilderness at the Walt Disney World Resort!

Coleen, Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground is one of my favorite places in the whole wide world. My family plans a stay in a cabin in the wilderness almost every year, so we've wandered those grounds a lot! The internal buses are pretty frequent and definitely take you where you want to go. The routes are color coded and there are bus stops at each loop, so you're never really far from the bus that will take you to your destination.

As for walking, there are plenty of wide sidewalks so it is walkable to an extent. That said, "the Fort" is a massive property, so the distances between most of the destinations is quite a hike. Honestly, if it's in your budget, the absolute best way to get around the Fort is by golf cart. This is our method of traversing the grounds, and there's really nothing better than having your very own wheels to come and go as you please! Your family should easily fit in a standard cart with one child in front and two in the back. When my son was small, he sat on my lap in the passenger seat while my husband drove. These days, my little guy sits by himself in the front seat and I hang out in the back. It's a Mom thing, am I right?

If you do decide to look into a golf cart, you can rent one directly from Disney, and you'll want to call ahead to reserve it as soon as you can. I think it will make all the difference in your enjoyment of all Fort Wilderness has to offer.

I hope this helps you have a rootin' tootin' time on your Walt Disney World adventure, Coleen. Please come on back and see us again real soon!

    Keep Disney Dreaming,

    Kathy K.
