I'm impressed w/ your in-the-know answers regarding discounts. I understand your point about free dining, but I'm unaware of any room discounts available for the end of Oct. Is free dining the best option or will a room discount for Oct be announced soon?

    Hi Jennifer,

Room only discounts for late October are usually released in August/September. Last year, we only saw room only discounts for annual passholders and Florida residents for this time frame.

You'll probably need to do a little bit of math to see which discount is best for your family.

If you are staying at a value resort, typically free dining will yield better savings than if you were at a deluxe resort. When you stay at a deluxe resort, your room cost is the priciest part of your vacation. By securing a room only discount, even with purchasing an annual pass, you can save a lot of money. My annual pass has saved us a ton towards hotels and merchandise!

If possible, you might want to book a free dining offer now since availability may be limited, then price out a room only discount if/when they are released. It should be prior to your final package payment at 45 days before your check in date.

There's a lot to learn about different ways to budget for a Walt Disney World vacation. One of the best resources can be found at www.mousesavers.com. You can find past discounts at this website so that you can figure out whether a room only or free dining would be best for your vacation.

Happy savings for a magical vacation!
