I'm guessing it's easier to get reservations at non-DDP restaurants on the property? Is this true? If so, what are some great non DDP spots to try? Thanks!

    Hi Elizabeth,

There are a number of fantastic restaurants located on property that don't participate in the Disney Dining Plans.  Some of my favorites are located at Downtown Disney.  Portobello is a wonderful Italian venue with fabulous (Italian) sangria and delicious pasta and meat entrees.  Fulton's Crab House has amazing seafood, that is flown in daily from around the world.  In fact, packing slips from the day's catch are posted in the lobby of the restaurant, demonstrating how truly fresh the food you will be enjoying is!  As you can guess, Fulton's specialty is crab legs, but they have outstanding lobster and wonderful fish as well.  If you are looking for a themed restaurant, both the Rainforest Cafe and TRex are very popular with children (and fun-loving adults).  Rainforest Cafe is themed after a tropical rainforest, and TRex will enable your family to dine among dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures.

Away from Downtown Disney, the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resorts have several outstanding dining options.  Some of my favorites include Il Mulino (which is an Italian restaurant that has a famous "sister" in lower Manhattan), Todd English's Bluezoo and Shula's Steakhouse.

I have found that when Disney offers free dining promotions, trying to secure a reservation at a non-dining plan establishment is a bit easier than at restaurants that participate in the plan.  However, I would still suggest making reservations to ensure that you have a table on the date and time you are most interested in.

    Bon appetit!
