    I'm getting an annual pass for this year but already have a magicband, is there any way of de-activing the complimentary one that comes with the pass so I can give it to a friend who's going next summer so she doesn't have to buy a band?

    Wow, it is so awesome that you have purchased a Walt Disney World Annual Pass!  Unfortunately once a MagicBand has been assigned to an individual, as in your case with your Annual Pass MagicBand, it can't be unlinked and and assigned to another person. One great place that I have found to purchase a MagicBand at a good price is the Disney Store Online (currently as I am answering your question the MagicBand prices range from $12.99 to $32.99).  Maybe you could purchase a MagicBand for your friend as a gift to get her excited for her Walt Disney World vacation next summer.  I hope that you get the opportunity to use your Walt Disney World annual pass many times this year!
