Hello, Christina!
It's great to see you back at planDisney, and I'm thrilled that you're doing your very first
runDisney event! The
Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend will also be my own first runDisney live event (I've done virtual races with them before, and the medals are SO cool) so I've been researching this topic a lot lately! I'm happy to share the little sparkles of pixie dust I've found so far.
Seeing runDisney return to the
Disneyland Resort is so exciting, they haven't held an event there since 2017! Since it's been so long, I'm not sure that past races are the greatest indicator of what will happen during the next one. However, my research tells me that historically, races have started near the Disneyland Hotel grounds and passed through each park, then some of the city, depending on the length of the race. So hopefully we will be racking up some magical miles in the parks! I would plan on an early morning. We don't have a start time yet, but runDisney events are always bright and early! You might be able to get a few extra minutes of sleep by staying at one of the
Disneyland Resort Hotels so that you don't have far to go to get to the starting line.
Let's talk about training! I'm sure our buddy Philoctetes (trainer of heroes!) would have a thing or two to tell us about getting ready, but runDisney also has the fantastic
Jeff Galloway to help us! There are some
great (and complimentary!) training programs online that Jeff has put together, including one that he designed especially for those preparing for a 5K distance like you are! This is the perfect time to build yourself an incredible race-worth playlist and get training!
Christina, I know we've got quite a long road in front of us before we get to our race. Don't forget to follow
runDisney on Instagram to see news and updates, especially if you're interested in preordering any merchandise for the race! If you have more questions about the Disneyland Resort I would be happy to help you in your journey! Grab your running shoes, I can't wait to go the distance with you!
Keep moving forward!
Amanda
