Welcome to planDisney, James. I'm so glad you're here!
Your trip is right around the corner! I hope your family is ready to enter the Grid on
TRON / Lightcycle Run Presented by Enterprise and
you're ready to save the universe alongside your favorite ragtag superhero team on
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. While I absolutely love riding on a lightcycle, if I had to choose between the two, I'd give the edge to Guardians!
I have good news for you: you
can split up your group to try for spots in different
Virtual Queues! Just make sure to try for these Boarding Groups at 7 a.m. sharp through your
My Disney Experience mobile app. To do this, I would recommend having 1 person try for one of the Virtual Queues while you try for the other.
At some point between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m., each person will be able to select their Boarding Group by navigating to the Virtual Queue section of the app. Simply select the three horizontal lines (≡) at the bottom righthand corner of the app and scroll down to and select "Virtual Queue". For yourself, you'd select "Join Virtual Queue," click on "EPCOT," and click "Confirm Party" under Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. Follow the prompts and only select yourself. The other person would select "Magic Kingdom," click "Confirm Your Party," and follow the prompts to select the
other members of your group. Then, once 7 a.m. rolls around, each of you will select "Refresh" (or pull-to-refresh) and click "Join Queue." Be sure to start refreshing a little before 7 a.m. These queues can fill up instantly! If you do not get a Boarding Group in the morning, you'll have another chance at 1 p.m. but you must be in the park at which the attraction you'd like to ride is located.
Just note that the second person must have their own My Disney Experience account and to create one, they must be at least 13 years of age. Furthermore, if you're splitting up your group, it's important to know that any Guests under the age of 14 must be accompanied by at least one Guest who is 14 years or older. Before your trip, you'll also want to make sure that everyone is connected through the
My Family & Friends List so that when it comes time to confirm your Boarding Group, everyone shows up!
One last thing: if you have date-based tickets, meaning your tickets are tied to a specific window of dates that you chose from a calendar when purchasing, you do not need Theme Park Reservations at this time and can just try for a Boarding Group. But if you happen to have a type of admission that requires Theme Park Reservations, like an Annual Pass, you
will need a Theme Park Reservation to the park at which the attraction is located to try for a Boarding Group in the morning. So, if this is the case, you'd need a reservation for EPCOT and your family would need one for Magic Kingdom Park. But this shouldn't apply to you if you have date-based tickets!
James, I wish you the best time saving the galaxy...and I hope that your family defeats Team Orange! Be sure to check out the
planDisney Podcast about all the Disney Thrills you can find at the Walt Disney World Resort! If you have any other questions,
you can send them my way.
There's no cause for alarm,
Matt
