If I’m driving to wdw do I really need to purchase their travel insurance? We are traveling during hurricane season which we have done in the past but doesn’t Disney have their own policy with cancellations for hurricanes? if you cancel do u get refun

Welcome back to planDisney, Amanda! It’s always a pleasure to see familiar names pop up, and we’re delighted to assist you once again with your Walt Disney World Resort vacation planning. Your trust in us over the years means the world to us, and we’re here to ensure your upcoming trip is as amazing as the ones before!

Deciding to purchase the Travel Protection Plan for your trip is a personal preference. To answer your question about Disney World’s Hurricane Policy, yes, if a hurricane warning is issued by the National Hurricane Center for the Orlando, FL, area or your place of residence within seven days of your scheduled arrival date, you can reschedule or cancel your vacation package and most room-only reservations if booked directedly through Disney, without cancellation or change fees. Suppose you booked a Special Offer, Deals, & Discount for your upcoming stay and are looking to reschedule your vacation as a result of the hurricane warning. In that case, Cast Members will attempt to apply the same offer for your new dates if it is available or try to find a similar offer. The money you spent on your Disney Resorts Collection hotel and Theme Park Tickets will apply to your new reservation. If you want to discuss this policy with a Cast Member, please call (407) 939-5277.

I did a little digging into the Travel Protection Plan offered for eligible trips and wanted to point out that it provides other benefits to deal with life’s unexpected moments, such as illness, injury, job loss, and military service, to name a few. It also assists with costs associated with trip delays, baggage loss, baggage delays, and rental car damage, among others. So, while you may be thinking about the protection plan from a weather standpoint, there are other things to consider before deciding to add the insurance or decline.

I hope this information helps, Amanda. Please let me know if you have any follow-up questions or would like additional assistance planning your upcoming vacation to The Most Magical Place On Earth!

    See you real soon!
