I’m going to Disneyland for the first time as a birthday gift and since I’m named after sleeping beauty I decided to sew a briar rose sun dress. But a friend told me that anything even close to a costume is not allowed. how can I know my dress is allowed?

    Hello, Aurora!

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, and thank you so much for visiting us with your question about the Disneyland Resort. I’m thrilled to hear you’ll be celebrating your birthday at the Happiest Place on Earth! There is no better place to spend a special occasion.

I think making a custom sundress will be such a wonderful way to add extra magic to your first visit! Actually, many people show their love of Disney by “Disneybounding,” a term coined in recent years that means dressing in an outfit inspired by a favorite character or film without actually being in costume. As long as you’re not in full costume or a replica of Sleeping Beauty’s gown that might make other Guests mistake you for your namesake, you can feel free to wear a handmade dress that is reminiscent of your favorite princess!

Be sure to pick up a complimentary birthday button for yourself at City Hall in Disneyland Park or the Chamber of Commerce in Disney California Adventure Park to help you celebrate your special day. It can be customized with your name so you’ll receive personalized birthday wishes from Cast Members and other Guests during your trip! If you have any table-service meals planned, be sure to let your server know you’re celebrating a birthday because you may receive some extra magic during your dining experience.

I hope this answers your question, Aurora, and that you enjoy a perfectly pixie-dusted vacation. Please don’t hesitate to visit us again with any other planning questions you can dream of!

    Wishing you magic,
    Courtney
