I'm going to Disney world next week and I'm 6 months pregnant. I'm staying at a cabin in the Fort wilderness and never stayed there before. I heard that it is a pretty far walk to everything, and was wondering if you knew any easy ways to get around.

    Hi Jessica,

Yes, there would be a lot of walking as the campground is a very large area, "one mile as the crow flies long"...I even think larger than that myself from when I have walked these grounds, not your typical campground, that's for sure!!!  There is however complimentary bus transportation which picks up guests and these bus stops are located at the entrance to each of the campground loops.  The buses are color coded and will take you pretty much wherever you need to go within Fort Wilderness Campground and outside of the campground as well (theme parks, water parks and Downtown Disney), you may need to use connecting buses via the Settlement Depot for some destinations.  You can also catch a water launch (boat), located at the Marina (Pioneer Hall area), to the Disney World Resorts located around the lagoon, Magic Kingdom and the Ticket and Transportation Center.

I would like to mention another one of my favorite transportation modes while inside the campground area and is a lot of fun to boot.  This would be their golf carts that you can rent from the Bike Barn location and although they can get a bit costly, I think they are worth the money spent for the ease of travel and I think of them like an attraction that you keep getting on the whole day through with no line ups!  Last time I stayed at Fort Wilderness Campground, they did offer a discount if you rented the carts for a whole week versus just daily.

This has always been my favorite place in Disney World (because of all the special memories generated from childhood vacationing in this wonderful campground with a great atmosphere and the variety of activities available here too!).  I hope you will make many magical memories here with your family and remember.....you do have air conditioning in the cabin and that is very important when you are pregnant, right?????  Have a very magical day!
