I'm on the Disney Wonder next week. I need to schedule a telehealth appointment for an observed covid test in order to get back into the US from Canada. Will there be cell service at the port in Vancouver and what time will we be on the ship until?

Ahoy there, Sandra! Welcome aboard planDisney! I'm so glad you sailed my way with your question about your cruise!

It looks like you've arrived today, so let's get right to it!

Cell service is definitely available in Vancouver - one of the major benefits of leaving from one of my favorite Canadian metropolises -  but as it is an international location, I always find it best to check with your cell carrier to see what potential extra charges you may incur as a result of international roaming or data use! With any luck, your carrier will outline this clearly with a quick search on your billing statement website!

With that out of the way, I actually have very good news for you: as of midnight on June 12, 2022, the CDC has dropped the requirement for a negative test to be permitted back into the United States by air! The official statement reads, "This means that as of 12:01AM ET on June 12, 2022, all air passengers, regardless of citizenship or vaccination status, are no longer required to show a negative viral COVID-19 test result, or documentation of recovery from COVID-19, before boarding a flight to the U.S." lucky you! You couldn't have timed that better if you'd tried!

As you're now two-for-two, I'd say it's time to embark on your Disney Cruise Line adventure to Alaska, and as Baloo says, "forget about your worries and your strife!" Not that you'll need to limit yourself to the Bare Necessities of life on the high seas - you're on the Disney Wonder, my favorite ship in the fleet! I can't wait for you and your crew to enjoy all the magic that awaits - from incredible live shows in the Walt Disney Theatre, to all the delicious food you care to enjoy at Tiana's Place and everything in between, you're sure to have an amazing time.

Here's a planDrew-approved tip - while the top deck is great for taking in the sights, sometimes it can get a bit crowded, especially when you're sailing through any fjords. So where to take in Alaska's majesty if not topside? Two words: Deck 4...ok, so that's a word and a number, but hear me out! In addition to the infinitely comfortable steamer chairs, Deck 4 also offers you a great opportunity for a chance meeting with some characters! I can't tell you how many times I've been watching the ocean go by or a port come into view when all of a sudden POOF - there's Donald Duck, Chip and Dale, or some other character doing the same! Nothing's guaranteed, of course, but with all our Disney friends ready in their Alaska-inspired best,  any chance meetings are sure to be great photo ops!

Thank you so much for your question, Sandra! I hope now you can trust that the bare necessities of life will come to you without a worry! If you have any other questions - even while onboard, please drop us another line here at planDisney!

    Fair winds and following seas!
