I’m going to Disney in January for my boyfriends birthday and I was wondering if I’m able to decorate the hotel room before we check in.

Hey, howdy, hey, Nina, and welcome to planDisney. WOW! The envelope, please. The Girlfriend of the Year award goes to... NINA! I love celebrating birthdays at Walt Disney World Resort so check out these ideas for you. There is a lot to unpack here and the first suggestion is directly related to your question while the rest are other ideas.

First challenge: Surprising your boyfriend in your Disney Resort Collections hotel. For Guests staying on-property, you can arrange with Disney Floral & Gifts for a gift to be delivered to your room after you check in whether through Online Check-In Service or check-in through the front desk. Check-in must be completed first so the Cast Members know where to deliver the items. Items may be delivered anytime between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. so be sure to be out of the room during that entire period. Dream Makers will help design the "practically perfect in every way" surprise for your special someone. Ideas range from simple floral arrangements to big-time Disney Themed Birthday baskets. If this is more than you want to do then I suggest you send your beau on a trip, aka "a mission," as my co-panelists Amy and Shannon would say. This mission needs to take about an hour and should involve heading to the grocery store or Disney Springs to pick up a couple of items while you "work with the hotel on your room reservation that will take a bit of time and you don't need his help." This will give you ample time to set up your own surprise. My suggested "mission", is to the Resort market or for Gideon's Bakehouse cookies. You will not regret this treat.

In the future, I hope Disney Floral & Gifts brings back in-room celebrations so keep checking. These were suspended in 2020 and involved decorations and delicacies all set up to surprise and delight.

Second challenge: Advance dining reservations. 60 days before your arrival make dining reservations for the restaurants you know he will love. At many table service restaurants, you may add a celebration cake. When you make the reservation make sure to note that you are celebrating an occasion and verify at the host podium when you arrive. Cakes may also be delivered to your Disney Resorts Collection hotel room.

Third challenge: Secure a birthday button and make him wear it. At the front desk of your Disney Resort hotel and every Theme Park Guest Relations desk, you may request a Birthday Button for him and an I'm Celebrating Button for you. Wear them with pride.

Fourth challenge: Character meet-and-greets. Make sure you visit at least one talking character like Gaston or Anna and Elsa to have them wish your guy a happy birthday. Also, be sure to get Memory Maker to capture these unforgettable moments or better yet a Capture Your Moment session.

I am excited for you and your boyfriend will love the magic that is hidden around every corner.

Nina, please write me back directly with any follow-up questions about your surprise Disney birthday trip.

    Enjoy making many Magical Memories.
