I’m going on a Disney Cruise and would like to know the policy regarding electric fans. My wife has a small portable fan that has been allowed on some cruises, but not on others. Is there an “approved fan” available? Thanks!

Hello, Vance! It's my pleasure to welcome you to planDisney where, like Moana, the sea calls us.

Vance, my family, and I will also be sailing with Captain Mickey in September and I'm already counting down the days until we're "all at sea." Now, on this trip, my father-in-law is traveling with us on the Disney Dream as a first-time cruiser, so I appreciate this question and have been having conversations at home about what is permitted to pack.

I'm happy to report that portable fans are NOT on the list of prohibited items, however, they may be inspected by the ship's Chief Electrician to ensure safety. There is not one specific fan that is listed as "approved," however, I would encourage you to take a look at the restrictions for hair dryers when making a determination. On my last sailing, I saw guests with rechargeable hand-held fans that appeared lightweight.

Vance, while likely not the exact answer you were wishing to hear, I do hope that it helps as you are thinking about packing for your upcoming trip. I'll be hoping that your wife's fan is easy to bring on board and helps you both have a cool and comfortable voyage.

Please come on back to planDisney with any additional questions.
