I'm deciding between the Port Orleans resorts for a stay. We've stayed in PO-R previously. But a number of WDW-related books and sites rate the PO-FQ higher. Can you help me compare benefits? I will be traveling with wife and two kids (ages 4 and 2).

    Hi, Dalin!

I am a huge fan of both Port Orleans' resorts, but I have to agree that I like French Quarter just a bit more than its sister resort Riverside.

French Quarter is about half the size of Riverside with about 1,000 rooms.  Because it is smaller, you can easily maneuver wherever your room is located.  There is just one bus stop conveniently located in the front of the resort, so you do not spend a lot of time driving from stop to stop (unless on the rare occasion you stop for a pick-up at Riverside).  The Food Court is nice, but not overwhelming, and the pool area is fun with plenty of pool chairs.  I like the intimate feel of the resort, and like that we can easily get to anywhere we need to be in just a few minutes.  The beignets at the bakery are reason enough to choose this resort.  They are made fresh to order - so delicious!

Riverside is much larger, but with that comes some perks.  They have a sit-down restaurant for dinner, multiple pools, catch-and-release fishing, and super fun YeeHa Bob in the lobby bar to entertain!    The down side is that if your room is far from the food court, you have quite a trek for even a quick snack.

With small children, I would suggest you give French Quarter a try.  Book a Standard Room, and request buildings 3 or 4.  You will not have a water view with these rooms, but you will find the location to the center of it all so convenient.  There is a lovely walkway along the Sassagoula River so you can still visit Riverside.  Both resorts have the boat transportation to Downtown Disney and pool hopping between these two resorts is permitted.

Whichever resort you decide upon, I hope you have a wonderful vacation!  The great thing is, both choices are fantastic and you cannot go wrong with either resort.  Enjoy!

Meet the Panelist: Cathy, Ohio

Hi, I'm Cathy from Cleveland. I love to travel, especially in the winter to escape the snow and cold of Ohio! My husband and 2 kids share my enthusiasm for travel, so we enjoy our adventures together whether it is hiking at a National Park, sailing on a Disney Cruise Ship, or going to Walt Disney World which is our home away from home. My husband proposed to me in front of Cinderella Castle and we have not stopped visiting ever since! It's a blast helping guests here at planDisney!
