Im cruising in 2 weeks with a 9 month old, what do you recommend I pack to help keep her in the shade and out of the sand on the beaches or on deck on the cruise ship? SHould I bring a tent or canpoy with me or can we rent on the boat or castway cay?

    Hi Stan,

I do suggest that you take her to the beach in the early morning and if it gets too hot for her, you will at least have gotten a chance to see the beautiful Castaway Cay and beaches in the other ports.

In reference to Castaway Cay, the good news is that you'll be able to find shady spots on the beach, and there are many beach umbrellas available, free of charge.  Of course, the earlier you arrive the greater your chances to claim a great spot.  I have been to Castaway Cay several times and have seen a few families using small pop up tents for their babies.  I think that as long as it's portable and you can pack it in your luggage you should be fine.  Don't worry about the pool deck on the ship at all.  There is a huge amount of shade on all sides of the pools, and seating areas.

Thanks for visiting the Moms Panel.  Please let me know if you have any other questions.  Have a wonderful trip!
