I’m cruising solo at the end of March with my 3 children. They would like to do the stingray interaction excursion at Castaway Key, but my youngest won’t be 5 until early July. Does he have to be 5 to do this or is there flexibility with ages for it?

Greetings, Mary, and welcome to planDisney! With your Bahamian cruise right around the corner, it won’t be long before you’re soaking up the magic of Castaway Cay. There are some great shore excursions to choose from.

Mary, I understand the excitement about the opportunity to feed and interact with majestic stingrays while on the island. Unfortunately, the age minimum for Castaway Ray's Stingray Adventure is firmly set to five years old, so your youngest child wouldn't be able to sign up. The age restriction is in place for the safety of both the Guests and the wildlife. Instead, consider the Glass Bottom Boat Scenic Voyage. This experience is open to Guests ages 3 and up. You'll have a chance to see tropical fish, coral reefs, and more.

Even if you choose not to do a port adventure on Castaway Cay, there will still be a lot to do. If your kids are at least 38 inches tall, they'll be able to play at Pelican Plunge. You'll swim out to a platform that has two waterslides and a giant bucket that dumps water. Complimentary life jackets are available for the kids. There's also a family beach that is perfect for splashing in the water, as well as a game pavilion with foosball, table tennis, and other activities. Don't miss the dance party, too!

Your kids may also like to visit Scuttle's Cove, the children's activity area on the island for ages 3 to 10. Just make sure they're registered for the onboard Youth Clubs. While the kids are playing at Scuttle's Cove under the supervision of Disney Youth Activities counselors, you could explore Serenity Bay, an area reserved for Guests ages 18 and older.

If your cruise will bring you to Nassau, Bahamas, you can consider the Blue Lagoon Island Dolphin Encounter for your family. This unique port adventure is suitable for ages 3 and up (when accompanied by an adult) and includes lunch. Dolphins would be a really cool substitute for stingrays, right? My mom had a dolphin encounter for her birthday a few years ago, and we still talk about it.

Mary, I hope you and your kids have an amazing time on your upcoming cruise. If you think of any other questions between now and embarkation day, please reach out – we're always happy to help here at planDisney!

    Wishing you magic,
