I'm considering a Disney Cruise for my son's 5th birthday in 2012. I'm wondering about food allergies on board. He is severely allergic to nuts, and my sister is to shellfish. The parks have always been accommodating, but is it possible on the ship?

Ahoy, Holly! I can't think of a better way to celebrate your son's 5th Birthday than to embark on a Disney Cruise!!! You'll be happy to find out Disney Cruise Line is able to accommodate special dietary needs, including food allergies. My oldest suffers from a severe food allergy too, so I can completely understand your concern. We have experience sailing with Disney and I can assure you that handling food allergies is a top priority. This is one topic that is taken very seriously. There are set policies and protocols that are followed to address these situations. You can start by calling (800) 951-3532 and having the two severe allergies noted on the reservation. Then you can follow up by filling out the Medical Forms. The Medical Forms can be downloaded from the "My Cruise Plans" tool at Disney Cruise Line. Fill them out and fax them to (407) 938-4295. Once onboard, you will be approached by the Chef and/or Dining Room Head Server at dinner. You'll be able to discuss all the safe food options available for your son and sister. If you plan on having your son participate in youth activities, I would also request to speak with the director of Youth Programming to make certain they are aware of your son's condition. Rest assured your entire family will be able to experience a most magical Disney Cruise. Bon Voyage!!!
