Hi I’m confused when I was at Walt Disney world buying a regular old MagicBand I asked if they could be used at the Disneyland Park and was told yes by a manager at magic kingdom but here on website it says they do not work. So who is telling the truth?

    Hi Faith!

Welcome to planDisney. While I spend most of my Disney Parks days at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, I take the opportunity to visit Disneyland Resort in California whenever possible. As a fellow coast-to-coast park guest, I'd be happy to answer your question.

While both early generation MagicBand and MagicBand+ can be used at Walt Disney World Resort, only MagicBand+ can be used at Disneyland Resort. I recently upgraded my family's bands to MagicBand+ so we could interact with the Disney Fab 50 Character Collection sculptures located around the 4 Florida parks as well as enjoy the accompanying lighting and haptic vibrations during the evening fireworks spectaculars. We all really enjoyed these features and loved having our MagicBand+ available to quickly enter the parks and access Lightning Lane entrances during our visit.

If you did end up purchasing a MagicBand+ you'll be able to enjoy many of the same features on the west coast, with a few exceptions. In Florida, MagicBand+ allows guests to unlock their resort rooms and make purchases with a quick tap in the parks. At this time, these features are not available at Disneyland Resort but guests can still take advantage of interactive experiences, quickly link Disney PhotoPass photos, and enjoy hands-free entry into the parks with valid admission and reservation.

If you ended up purchasing an older generation MagicBand, unfortunately, you won't be able to use them at Disneyland Resort, and the current return policy doesn't allow for returns or exchanges of any MagicBand products. I know this is likely not the news you were hoping to hear, but don't let a MagicBand mishap rain on your Disneyland parade. I brought my MagicBand+ along on my most recent Disneyland Resort visit but ended up forgetting it in my resort room almost every day. Luckily, I was able to enter the parks using my eTicket linked to the Disneyland App and was able to scan in at Lightning Lane entrances right from my phone with no issues.

I hope this cleared up any confusion Faith. If we can be of further assistance please feel free to reach out again!

    Faith, trust, and pixie dust!
