I’m confused about park reservations. We have a park hopper pass for dates 6/5-6/11. Do we need a park reservation for the days we’re going to the parks?

Matthew, thanks for coming to planDisney with your Walt Disney World Resort vacation planning question!

There have been some recent changes to the park reservation requirements, so I can understand your confusion. But no need to worry. I will explain which tickets still require reservations and what your Theme Park Ticket with the Park Hopper Option means to you so you can continue planning a memorable visit to The Most Magical Place On Earth!

Currently, the only tickets that would require a reservation would be:

    • Student group tickets
    • Sport and Convention tickets
    • Florida Resident Disney Thrills Ticket
    • Florida Resident Discovery Disney Tickets
    • Disney Military Salute Ticket
    • Annual Passes

You likely purchased your tickets as a vacation package or a stand-alone ticket purchase, meaning your ticket is date-based and won't require a park reservation. Date-based tickets would be those you buy and, in the process, select a start date that coincides with your arrival at your Disney Resorts Collection hotel or the first day you plan on visiting the parks. Say you bought a 4-Day Theme Park Ticket with the Park Hopper Option. This would not require a park reservation, and you would have seven days from the date you chose to visit the parks four times. The date range is given so you don’t have to use your tickets on consecutive days, which is convenient if you want to enjoy a resort pool day or take a day to rest your tired feet after getting all of your steps in the day prior. Flexibility is a luxury when on a Disney vacation, in my opinion!

Matthew, have you considered purchasing Disney Genie+ during your upcoming stay? Genie+ allows you to book Lightning Lanes at select attractions, minimizing your wait in line and maximizing your time in the parks. If you have questions about Disney Genie Service or Genie+, submit another question. I would be happy to walk you through the benefits of this add-on!
