I'm confused about the Epcot Food and Wine Festival. Is it best to make dinner reservations, or to just walk around and sample food? My family will be at Disney World from September 27-October 3rd. We are only spending one day in Epcot, Monday, the 30th.

Hi Diane! How exciting you have a chance to take a break this fall with a Disney visit. A visit to Epcot during the Food and Wine Festival is a lot of fun and full of good food and drink.

I have several thoughts about your Epcot visit. If you are planning your day for a Saturday or even a Sunday then I strongly suggest you book a dining reservation. A visit on a Monday would be a bit easier but since this is the beginning the festival it still might remain busy that first week.

The World Showcase will be very crowded and the lines for the food stands will be long. The amount you purchase at the kiosks is usually small so more then one stop meaning more then one line will be necessary to feed the family. I prefer to have a reservation in place and then if I pass by something that just smells too yummy to pass up I will have the option to stand in line. Hungry families are not happy families and that can ruin a good day.

If your children are young I also suggest you make your visit during the lunch hours to mid afternoon. Unfortunately, since this is indeed not only a food festival the crowd in the evening can be rather rambunctious. If you wish to stay for the Eat to the Beat concerts then hit the first one of the day and leave after that.
