Hi Nancy! The Wine and Dine weekend is my favorite! And although I love having my children at Disney with me, this is a great race to do as "adults only"! My husband and I ran the race together last year and left our boys with their grandparents.
First, you want to choose a resort that is a host resort for that race. You can find a list of them on the
Wine and Dine half marathon website. Just click on "travel details" on the left. There are resorts that are available for all budgets, and they will all have free bus transportation to the runner's expo for packet pick-up and to and from race events. All resorts have free and easy transportation to all parks and Disney areas.
My personal favorites are the Yacht and Beach Club Resorts and the Boardwalk Inn Resort. These are especially great after the Wine and Dine race because you can walk to them from Epcot and the post-race party. No need to wait for the buses. My husband and I stayed at the Boardwalk Resort and when we were done with the after party, we simply walked (hobbled??) back to our room! The Epcot area resorts also have really easy access to the Epcot park and Hollywood Studios. Additionally, they are all centered around the
Boardwalk area which has great restaurants and some late night entertainment (I love
Jellyrolls!).
But again, any host resort will have convenient transportation to race events and theme parks. So, you really should decide based on budget and resort preference. Let me know if you have any other questions!!
