If I’m buying a meal plan for my family do I need to purchase one for my 4year old or can he eat off my plates?

    Hi Stephanie!

I'm so excited to hear that you are planning a family vacation to Walt Disney World Resort and one of the Disney dining plans is a great addition to your vacation. It's so nice to pay for the majority of your dining expenses in advance of your vacation. Be sure to download the My Disney Experience mobile app because it's the easiest way to manage your dining credits during your vacation!

Disney dining plans are linked to your Disney Resort hotel reservation and must be purchased as part of a vacation package. When you purchase a dining plan, everyone on your reservation who is 3 years old and over will automatically receive the dining plan you have selected. Unfortunately, there is no way to purchase the dining plan for only a subset of the Guests on your reservation. So if you choose to use a dining plan for your trip, your son will automatically get his own set of dining entitlements.

In my experience traveling with my little ones, it's been nice for my kids to have their own dining entitlements for our vacation. This allows them to order whatever they would like to enjoy and likewise, I am free to order meals that suit my tastes. Also, keep in mind that if you are planning to enjoy buffets or Character Dining experiences, all Guests who are 3 years old and over who will be enjoying that dining experience will be charged for their meal, even if they simply share a plate with an adult. So when we use the dining plan when traveling with my kids, we definitely plan quite a few Character Dining meals to make the most of our dining entitlements!

Be sure to follow the Disney Parks Blog as you continue planning for the latest news and announcements about the fun you will be able to enjoy during your vacation! Also, feel free to come back to see us if we can help you again as you continue planning. T-T-F-N, ta ta for now!
