Hi, there!
Welcome to planDisney, Katy. I'm so glad you stopped by! We're delighted to help you plan your visit to the
Walt Disney World Resort this Fall.
I totally understand your concern. Two of my three kids are picky eaters, and one of those picky eaters is a 14-year old. He's 5'7 (and still growing), so while typical kids' menu fare is what appeals to him, the kids' portion sizes aren't large enough
and he's technically considered an 'adult' at
dining locations throughout the Walt Disney World Resort. To answer your question, your 10-year old will be considered an adult at dining locations too. That said, we've had no trouble catering to my 14-year old's picky leanings during our Disney vacations. If there hasn't been something on a table service restaurant's adults' menu that looked appetizing to him, he's been able to order from the kids' menu, receive a larger portion, and then be charged adult pricing for that larger portion size. In our experience, the Servers at Walt Disney World Resort have been understanding and accommodating for my son. I'm sure you'll experience the same!
My best advice is to preview menus before making dining reservations. Make sure there's at least one entrée on the adults' or kids' menu that your son would be interested in. We've found that dining locations are usually able to substitute sides for my picky eaters, so don't worry about those items and instead, focus on the main piece of the entrée. I also recommend booking dining locations that feature a buffet like
Chef Mickey's! These restaurants usually have a section of the buffet with children's classic favorites, like chicken tenders, and because it's all-you-care-to-enjoy, your son can fill his belly with the things he likes best!
I hope this was helpful, Katy. Please let us know if you have any other questions about the Walt Disney World Resort! We'd love to help you plan a magical stay.
