Hi Richelle,
My family has celebrated birthdays at Walt Disney World, and it adds an extra layer of excitement to the trip.
Be sure to get a "Happy Birthday" button for your son. These buttons are available at Guest Relations at any of the Disney theme parks. Although no extra magic is guaranteed with the button, you never know when a little extra pixie dust may be sprinkled on his day. I will never forget the look in my daughter's eyes on her seventh birthday when the server at the Plaza Restaurant at Magic Kingdom brought her a huge cupcake with colorful sprinkles! This leads me to my next suggestion - be sure to indicate on any resort or restaurant reservations that you are celebrating your son's birthday.
You can order a Disney-themed cake by calling the Disney Cake Hotline at 407-827-2253. Cast members there can work with you to customize a cake for your son. We had a chocolate cake in the shape of Minnie Mouse's face delivered to our villa at Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort for our daughter's birthday. The unofficial site disneyfoodblog.com has a good article with frequently asked questions the cake hotline. Visit that site and search for "cake hotline" and it will be one of the first results.
Finally, consider a gift from
Disney Floral and Gifts. They can work with you to customize a gift for your son's birthday. They have a large selection of gifts for birthdays, and you can incorporate many Disney characters into the gifts. For our daughter's birthday, we had a plush Minnie Mouse holding balloons delivered. I suggest that once you browse their options, you call a Dream Maker at 407-WDW-GIFT (407-939-4438) to customize your gift.
I hope that this gives you ideas for your son's birthday celebration, Richelle. Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions!
