I’m bringing my mother to Magic Kingdom for her first time on her birthday next weekend (January 9, 2022) I had no idea about runDisney until recently. Will the race affect her first time WDW experience?

Greetings Shadira! Thank you for stopping by planDisney.

Wow! What an amazing birthday present from you to your mom. She is going to have an amazing birthday experience this weekend at the Walt Disney World Resort.

I have participated in a few runDisney races in the past and I can honestly say that the parks may seem a little bit more crowded than usual simply because the races are so popular. If you are staying at off-site accommodations, you may experience some delays if you are planning to visit EPCOT, which is near the Marathon start/finish line. Several roads will be closed along the race route early in the morning, causing a possible delay. However, if you are staying at a Disney Resorts Collection Hotel, I would suggest using the complimentary bus, boat, or monorail transportation on race day for a hassle-free ride to your theme park destination for the day. I have reviewed the Park Pass Reservation calendar and all theme parks still have availability for this weekend. This means that none of the parks have reached capacity during your trip and the crowds will be manageable.

You and your mom are going to have such a magical time and make memories that will last for years to come. Don’t forget to stop by Guest Relations and get your mom a “Happy Birthday” and “1st Visit” celebration buttons.

    See ya real soon,
    Andrea
