Ahoy! Welcome to planDisney, Steve. I am glad you cruised by with this question to give me a chance to talk about why I always choose
Disney Cruise Line. I can honestly say that when my husband and I looked at itineraries on other cruise lines, we always booked with Disney. The list of reasons is long, but one of the main ones is alcohol is not a focal point.
I have cruised with my family and had several adult-only adventures on Disney cruise ships. I have seen–and been a part of–groups enjoying drinks and having a magical time. But I had never felt like I was missing out on anything at all on cruises when drinking was not on the docket for me.
You don't have to miss out on fruity or fun drinks. They have a wide variety of zero-proof beverages, and they are even featured on the menus in the main dining rooms. If you want a tasty special mocktail, they have you covered!
There is so much to do on the cruise; you can easily have a wonderful time. I'll share a few of my favorites.
Palo and
Palo Steakhouse are adult-exclusive dining experiences. Whether you go for brunch or dinner, the views are stunning, the food is divine, and the service is impeccable. We didn't do this the first few times we cruised, but we're not making that mistake again. You have to get a reservation, and there is a charge, but it is so worth it.
It also took me a few cruises to convince my husband to try
Senses Spa. He's not a spa person—at least, he wasn't until he tried the rainforest room and sauna. You can get a length-of-cruise pass to access these areas. Day passes are available on some cruises, too, and this is what we like.
Even with activities in the clubs, the bar may be open, but you do not need a drink to enjoy the entertainment. I have had so much fun playing 80s and 90s music trivia, dancing with the silent DJ and laughing at the Guest-participation game shows. Whether I had a cocktail, mocktail or soda, it was a blast.
Enjoy all of the entertainment for Guests of all ages. Character greetings are not just for kids. One of my favorite character moments was wishing Donald Duck a very happy birthday on his 90th this past summer. It was early in the morning, and the ship was quiet. I got to celebrate the #1 Duck, and he told me he was taking over as Captain for the day.
The Broadway-style theatrical shows will leave you in awe, amazed at how they pull off beloved stories and movies in such a creative and technical way. Disney is the only cruise line with first-run movies. I always enjoy catching up at the cinema. And it's the only cruise line with fireworks. You can look across the horizon and see other ships in the distance, trying to catch a glimpse of this magic. One of my favorite fun facts is that fireworks are made with biodegradable materials that become fish food when they hit the water. Disney Imagineering has no bounds!
I also enjoy catching a few of the classes. I know, who would want to go to class on vacation? But I have learned how they make the lobster bisque and towel animals. On my last cruise, I learned how to draw Mickey Mouse from Don "Ducky" Williams, a Disney character artist for more than 30 years.
Steve, I hope my experience helps ease any worries. I have 100% proof that a zero-proof vacation is just as wonderful. If we can help with any other questions, please come back to
planDisney. We're here for you!
Bon Voyage!
