Welcome back aboard planDisney, Frank - it's so great to see you back here!
I hope you're getting excited about your upcoming voyage on the
Disney Wish; it seems like just a few moons ago when
you had asked our team about upcoming itineraries for this year, and it's finally happening within a month from now!
Having lived and worked at sea for over a decade, the one thing that I always caution any future seafarers is to treat your cruise voyage as something completely different from a land-based vacation, where access to a pharmacy may be more readily available than the limited supply at the
onboard Health Center out on the ocean. I highly recommend that you always bring medication
in their original containers in your carry-on luggage as officially recommended by Disney Cruise Line, and treat it the same way you would for any other international travel. I have personally witnessed and been part of situations where this has been vital for the person in question in a variety of ways:
- In the event of a shipboard emergency requiring guests to assemble in their Muster Stations, the crew are trained to retrieve these from safe locations in your Stateroom and having these being easily identifiable is crucial when seconds matter in these situations.
- If for any reason you are incapacitated, requiring medical assistance or medication while you are on board, your medication and dosage can be easily confirmed by the Medical teams from the appropriately labelled containers themselves if the prescription information sheet is not available.
- Policies surrounding controlled substances brought on board and when entering other countries are strictly enforced and may mandate original containers when carried.
Having an additional prescription information sheet is still a great asset to have, and I would also recommend taking a photo of it and having a copy on your phone just in case. But as with any additional measures that would-be sailors have to take when embarking on any vessel, what might feel like a slight inconvenience for a few days of cruising is greatly outweighed by the benefit of being prepared for whatever may come while you're out at sea.
During your voyage, be sure to keep a keen eye out for the
DisneyBand+ which was
first introduced on the Disney Wish before eventually becoming available to each of the other ships in the fleet in sequence over the next while. Don't hesitate to
come back to planDisney again to ask me any other questions, and reach out to our Disney Cruise Line specialists
Tracie and
Adrianna for their wealth of nautical knowledge!
Here's to keeping your stash safely stored on board a ship on your upcoming trip!
