Hi! I'll be traveling with my family to Disney world on october and I'm interested in purchasing magic bands, if I'm not staying at a Disney resort will I'll be able to use them?

Hey there, Sheila, and welcome to planDisney! Thanks for stopping by the panel with your question! I’m going to do my best to control my excitement, but you’ve asked about my favorite Disney collectible: MagicBands! I don’t think they were originally designed as a collectible item, but somehow I’ve amassed a small army of them over the years. I know I don’t need a new one for every trip, but where’s the fun in that?

Sheila, the short answer to your question is: Yes! You can still use your MagicBand even though you are not staying in a Disney Resorts Collection hotel during your visit. Plus, it’s a Disney Vacation so I say go for it! There are no rules on a Disney Vacation, and calories don’t count in the Disney bubble! Even though you are not staying in a Disney Resorts Collection Hotel, your MagicBands can still be used to access the Theme Parks, enter Lightning Lane queues, link Disney Photopass pictures, and more. But keep in mind that since you are not staying in a resort hotel, you will not have the ability to charge resort purchases with your MagicBand. You can purchase MagicBands through ShopDisney and have them delivered right to your front door! Once you receive them, you can use the online linking tool to link your MagicBands to your My Disney Experience account. Then you’ll be all set to head to the Disney Vacation fun!

I hope this helps, Sheila! If you have more questions while planning your Disney Vacation, stop back by and let me know

You’ve got a friend in me,
