Hi Maria,
Welcome to planDisney! We're glad you stopped by with your question about relaxing places to chill out with your husband on the days you aren't visiting the theme parks.
Over our many years as Walt Disney World passholders, my husband and I have developed a long list of our favorite spots around the resorts to relax with a libation, a snack, a book and each other's company. I'm happy to share some of our favorites.
- Victoria Falls Lounge at Animal Kingdome Lodge. This is one of our top spots to spend time relaxing. Or we like to get a drink to go and find a rocking chair on a balcony overlooking the savannah.
- Geyser Point and Territory Lounge at Wilderness Lodge. Geyser Point has yummy burgers, comfy chairs by the water and a laid-back atmosphere. Territory Lounge is tucked off the lobby with vibes of the Great Northwest.
- Steakhouse 71 Lounge at the Contemporary. We love to sit at the bar at Steakhouse 71 Lounge, eat delicious bar bites (loaded mac and cheese anyone?) and order cocktails from some of the friendliest servers on property.
- Dahlia, Three Bridges Bar and Grill, and Barcelona Lounge at Coronado Springs. This resort has a trifecta of great places to hang out with your sweetheart. Dahlia has awesome views, especially at night. Barcelona is beautiful and elegant, and Three Bridges consistently serves delicious food and drinks on the water. The Gran Gin Tonic at Barcelona is my favorite cocktail on Disney property.
- Belle Vue Loungeat The Boardwalk Inn. This hidden gem, overlooking the Boardwalk, is quiet but close to the action.
- Bar Riva at Riviera Resort. It's technically a pool bar, but the food, drinks and service go above and beyond.
- Scat Cat's and River Roost at the Port Orleans resorts. Both have great ambiance, and you can add to experience by arriving via boat from Disney Springs.
- Trader Sam's Tiki Terrace at the Polynesian Village Resort. If a spot at Trader Sam's isn't available (or you want something quieter), grab a drink from the Tiki Terrace and a table next to the waterfall. There may even be someone singing and playing the ukulele. (Note that the Tiki Terrace is currently closed for renovation through at least late June.)
One other tip, Maria: The resort pool bars are usually located near the main pools. We like to get a drink from the pool bar and then enjoy them in a shady spot near a quiet pool.
And make sure you check the hours of each before you set off. Some open before lunch, others not until happy hour.
I know that's a lot, but we've been "researching" this topic for years. I hope this list gets you started and that you have fun discovering your own favorites around the Walt Disney World resorts.
Happy exploring,
Wilma
