I’ll be sailing on the Disney Dream for Halloween on the High Seas. What are some great onboard activities I should reserve for a family of 4? Are there activities for larger families too? Any must dos or try?

Ahoy there, Michelle! What a treat to see your name pop up here again at planDisney! Your trip on the Disney Dream is just around the riverbend, so let’s get started turning those wishes into plans for you and your entire travel crew.

First of all, I’m tickled to tell you that since you last wrote in, the details of your theme nights have been revealed! On Night 2, after your day in Nassau, you’ll experience Mickey's Mousequerade and Trick or Treat. Then the next night, after visiting Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, you and your fellow scalawags will party like a pirate for Pirate Night! It’s up to you whether or not you want to match Jack Sparrow, but have your cameras at the ready because many of your favorite Disney pals will be wearing their best pirate garb. If nothing else, you can don the Mickey pirate bandana you’ll find in your stateroom before dinner.

When it comes to specific activities to reserve, you’ll unearth a ton of frightfully fun entertainment during Halloween on the High Seas. While Halloween activities and offerings are subject to change and vary by ship and itinerary, I would definitely try to make reservations for any of the Character Greetings that allow it, especially for the iconic and popular Sanderson sisters.

When I’ve traveled with larger groups, we’ve had the most fun meeting up for trivia, karaoke, or even the silent disco. And while you can’t make reservations for these activities, you can ‘favorite’ them in your Disney Cruise Line Navigator app to make sure you receive a notification about 15 minutes before it starts (although you’ll likely want to arrive about 30 minutes in advance of the start time for activities and shows if you’re trying to get seats together for a large group). And in my experience, many of these activities will have a spooktakular theme as well.

With a group that’s half the size of the Pongo Family, I thought you might appreciate a few tips to maximize your enjoyment and efficiency once on the ship. First, make sure you’ve discussed your preferred dining times and prioritized what (if any) Port Adventures you want to experience together. Frankly, if it were me, I would disembark as early as possible at Lighthouse Point to stake your spot on the beach and just enjoy all that’s included while at Disney’s Island Destination. If you haven’t already, link your dining reservations to make sure you can all be seated in the same area of the dining room. And finally, consider coordinating Halloween costumes and/or outfits for Pirate Night (just make sure they comply with Disney’s costume guidelines).

Whew! You’re almost there! I know there are so many options, but remember, you don’t have to do everything. Pick a few “must-dos” and then leave space in your schedule to explore and rest; some of my favorite cruise memories are from just relaxing by the pool with an ice cream in my hand or exploring the ship as the sun rises over the horizon. However you decide to cruise, rest assured that even more spooky surprises await you on board. And you know where to find me here at planDisney if you think of any more questions before you set sail.

    Bon voyage,
    Sami
