I’ll be at HS with my kids in April. It will just be me and the 9 yr olds. I have one who loves rides and one who doesn’t. We’ve never gone without their dad before so I’m not sure how to take my roller coaster junkie on rides. Does she have to miss out?

    Hi there, Amanda!

From one mom to another, welcome to planDisney. Your dilemma is something that I experience very often with my two boys: one is a daredevil and one won’t ride anything that has the tiniest of drops (except Pirates of the Caribbean and Frozen Ever After). When I visit the theme parks without my husband, it can sometimes be difficult to navigate without the extra hand. With that being said, I am more than happy to help you!

First, Disney’s Hollywood Studios is the home of a few thrill rides: Tower of Terror, Slinky Dog Dash, and Rise of the Resistance. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will be closed for retheming by the time of your trip, but I highly recommend it for when it reopens with a Muppets takeover. So, this theme park is a great choice for your rollercoaster-loving kiddo.

Now, can she ride alone without you or her sibling joining? Here’s the good news: Guests aged 7 or older can ride an attraction without an adult. As soon as my older son turned 7, he and I started using the Single Rider lines to maximize our time (although riding separately). I recommend that all of you wait in line together and then allow your thrill seeker to hop on the attraction. You can then meet her at the ride’s exit shop or area. Who knows? Once you get to the top of the line, your other kiddo may decide to ride with both of you. You can sit by their side to make them feel more at ease, and your thrill seeker can ride in the row in front of you.

Keep in mind that you will not be able to leave your other kiddo behind. The Cast Members can’t keep an eye on them, even if for a few minutes. Before you visit, set the expectations for the day as well. My older son fully understands that Disney days with his little brother (and without dad) are little more lowkey thrill-wise, and that we will most likely enjoy attractions together.

AN EXTRA GEM: There are many rides at Hollywood Studios where 3 or more Guests can sit side-by-side. From Mickey’s Runaway Railway to Star Tours to Alien Swirling Saucers, you all can have an amazing day full of laughs and memory-making.

Amanda, I hope that you and your Mouseketeers have the BEST time in April. Until then, if you have any other questions, revisit us here at planDisney. I’m all ears!

    Magic always,
